Coreopsis tripteris is a tall perennial native to eastern North America, typically reaching 90–180 cm tall from a short, stout rhizome, leaves are mainly cauline and usually three-foliolate with lanceolate to narrowly elliptic leaflets, flower heads feature eight yellow ray florets surrounding a brown to purplish disk and bloom July–September in habitats such as heavy loams and moist sands along streams or boggy meadows, it spreads by rhizomes and seeds to form colonies, prefers full sun to partial shade and moist to well-drained soils, with drought tolerance once established, it can be aggressive in adequately moist conditions and self-seeds, deadheading extends bloom and helps prevent unwanted seedlings, propagation by seed or division with division recommended every 2–3 years to maintain vigor, seeds can be saved and stratification improves germination, hardy in USDA zones 3–9, suitable for meadows, prairies, wildflower gardens, and borders, and it attracts bees, butterflies, skippers, and native bees.
