This Louisiana Iris hybrid native to southern Louisiana's Mississippi Delta features violet-purple flowers with an inner violet-purple blade and golden crest, arising on a very stout, fleshy branching rootstock; basal leaves typically form a five-member cluster, and an erect flower-stalk reaches about 2.5–3 ft, enabling the plant to form large colonies in sunlit, prairie-like settings.

In cultivation, full sun is preferred and prairie-like settings suit its growth; it forms large colonies and has Iris chlorolopha listed as a synonym.
